AND THEY'RE OFF

DAY 1 LAND'S END TO OKEHAMPTON (21st MAY 2011)

Approx 102 miles, just over 7 hours and approx 6500 metres of climbing.

Set off from Lands End at about 10.30 a.m.  in strong southerlies and drizzle. The A30 wasn't as bad as we expected but we moved on to quieter roads anyway. The views should have been fantastic but the rain put paid to that. 

Stopped for coffee in Portreath and then lunch in Bodmin at 4.30 p.m. Got to Okehampton between 8.30 and 9.00 p.m. and then went out for a curry and a couple of beers. Andy had a bit of a struggle for the last couple of hours but nothing the curry couldn't sort. Everyone is glad to have the first and hilliest day out of the way.
